Synopsis
The Rural Sector Statistical Information System-Rural Profile (RSSIS-RP) is
one of the milestone accomplishments of the BAS/World Bank project entitled “
Statistical Capacity Building in the Rural Sector “. The RSSIS-RP database aims
to give a better understanding of the rural sector and situating it in the
overall economy of the country. This information system can thus support the
data needs for monitoring rural development as well as the government’s poverty
alleviation programs.
This webpage presents the RSSIS-RP framework containing 14 modules. The
various indicators with corresponding formulas and sources of data contained in
each module are discussed. The statistical information are likewise briefly
described to facilitate interpretation of each indicator.
The formulation of the RSSIS-RP framework had been done through a
comprehensive assessment of the existing data systems relating to the rural
sector and included the review of the institutional/organization capacity of the
Philippine Statistical System (PSS). The statistical tables have been generated
through visits to the various agencies, particularly those concerned with social
statistics such as health, education, infrastructure and finance.
It is hoped that through this webpage, data producers as well as data users
will have a better appreciation of the significance of a rural statistical
information system. The developed information system is likewise expected to
provide sufficient basis for the generation of relevant statistics with urban
and rural dimensions.
