Prevailing Prices of Pork Down

A very low turnover of pork meat at the wet markets prompted retailers to reduce their price quotations this week.

Prevailing prices of the prime cuts registered a P10 per kilogram reduction. Price of grilling cut (liempo), which previously prevailed at P170 per kilogram, was down to P160. Lean pork (pigue and kasim) was sold at P150 per kilogram from P160 last week.

Beef and chicken, on the other hand, were priced at old tags despite the slight improvement in demand especially for the latter.

At the vegetable counters, the heavy rains brought about by typhoon “Feria” had very little impact on retail prices today. Deliveries yesterday remained ample although the quality of vegetables coming from Northern Luzon was apparently affected by the delay in bringing down the produce from the production areas.

Among the indicator vegetables, eggplant, okra and native pechay recorded price increments.

The price of eggplant increased from P40 per kilogram to P60. One of the suppliers of this fruit vegetable is Bicol, which was hit by typhoon “Feria”.

Okra and native pechay were priced higher by P5 and P10 per kilogram, respectively.
